For children in J-S and EG district
The Greene County school district is holding a preschool pre-registration day next Wednesday for 4-year-olds and 3-year-olds to help in early planning for the 2014-15 school year.
“Although it is only March, we are already making plans for the 2014-2015 school year. One of our biggest questions as we plan is student enrollment. This question is most important at the preschool level,” superintendent Tim Christensen explained. Parents are asked to visit the elementary building in Jefferson to complete a preschool pre-registration form. Wednesday, March 26, between 1:30 and 5:30 pm. Students eligible for the preschool program need to be 4 years of age by Sept. 15.
The 4-year-old program is state-funded but voluntary. In this year’s kindergarten class, 96 percent of the students attended 4-year-old preschool last year.
The school is also considering offering a tuition-based 3-year-old preschool program, as the Greene County Early Learning Center is discontinuing the Pied Piper program to devote resources to an expansion of the center.
Parents with an interest in the 3-year-old program are asked to complete a pre-registration form March 26 between 1:30 and 5:30 at the elementary school in Jefferson. Students eligible for the 3-year-old program need to be 3 years of age by Sept. 15.
The preschool classes will be held in Jefferson, as the Grand Junction building will be attended by students in grades 4-6 next year. A preschool pre-registration is not scheduled for the Grand Junction building.
